Welcome to the video portal for our karate curriculum (VP-Karate), born out of the need to promote personal training during the COVID19 pandemic, formerly known as the Video Distance Learning Program (VDLP-Karate).

ABOUT THE CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is vast and thorough, designed to develop the physical, technical and mental/psychological aspects of the traditional martial art of karate, for self-defence, healthy living and beyond. This portal however is strictly for videos. Some video tutorials in this portal may be compulsory for promotion. You can find information on the promotional requirements and testing in the curriculum in the members area of the website here..

TUTORIALS

The tutorial pages in this curriculum consist of instructional videos, i.e. the instructor is either directly presenting to the audience, or their is narration over the video being shown. They are grouped by the following categories:

BEGINNERS

Students, white      to orange      belts. Example of video name format:

"Karate BEGINNERS - Video #1"

INTERMEDIATE

Students, , green      to purple      belts. Example of video name format:

"Karate INTERMEDIATE - Video #1"

ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE

Open to students brown belt and above. Membership access must be requested. Video assignments are for advanced-intermediate students of Jikan Dojo, brown belts      . Example of video name format:

"Karate ADV.INT - Video #1"

YUDANSHA

Yudansha are 'dan students', ie black belts. Black belts must directly request access.

OTHER VIDEOS

The 'All Kata and Forms' page shows different groupings of forms, drills and techniques up to 1st degree black belt (shodan). Videos (not tutorials) in the Beginner, Intermediate and Advance-Intermediate sections may be found duplicated in this page.

FURTHER VIDEOS

Beyond the technical videos in the sections of this portal we have a nice collection of videos on the history and philosophy of karate and martial arts in Japan on our Youtube channel.

ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSIONS

In some occasions, you may be required to submit a video tutorial assignment. Video assignments may be requested for the following reasons:

1) As a conditional requirement for a grading where the instructor feels the student needs to put in extra preparation work.

2) As an opportunity to acquire more grading points where the student is short of the required points for eligibility for grading.

3) As a conditional requirement for a student who is offered a grading retest (usually in 1 month).

Only submit an assignment if you were specifically asked to do so. To submit your video assignments, follow the dropbox link below to upload to your videos;

POINT SCORING CRITERIA
The purpose of the video assignments is to encourage
self-study. It's a guide t
o training on your own. The following scoring criteria document is here to give you an idea of what the teacher looks for in your video submissions and your technique in general.

You will be doing them without the supervision of an instructor and you will therefore be fully responsible for your safety and well-being. Always ensure that you feel safe and comfortable with the exercises shown. Make sure you warm-up before exercise and stretch after exercise.

 

Students under 18yrs old should acquire permission and supervision from their parent or guardian.
